Buffalo Bills release wide receiver Chase Claypool

(WHEC) – Receiver Chase Claypool will ultimately not play the 2024 season with the Buffalo Bills.

Claypool, who was brought in during the offseason to help the Bills fill their receiver needs, has been injured for most of training camp. He and the team have reached a settlement agreement that allows him to sign with another team later in the year if he recovers from the injury.

In four NFL seasons, Claypool has played for four teams, not including this past season with the Buffalo Bills. He has 175 receptions for over 2,000 yards, but has failed to stay healthy — or stick with a team — since his first two NFL seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In fact, 9 of Claypool’s 13 career touchdowns came in his rookie season.

As the Bills continue to look for help at receiver, a healthy Claypool would still have had a tough time starting. Newcomers Curtis Samuel, Keon Coleman and Mack Hollins, along with Bills veteran Khalil Shakir, appear to be Josh Allen’s top targets.
