A man was arrested in connection with four “gruesome” rapes in an inner city.

Police believe the man “targeted drunk men and women” before raping them and stealing their personal belongings. Officers have today arrested a suspect in his 40s following the four incidents in Manchester city centre.

The man is still in custody and is being questioned by detectives. All four victims are being assisted by specialist officers. The first attack occurred in February, reports Manchester Evening News.

Detective Superintendent Richard Hunt, head of the Rape and Other Sexual Offences Unit, said: “Our specialist officers have supported and continue to support those involved in these incidents. We are doing everything we can to provide them with the appropriate care they need during this time.”

“These are truly horrific crimes and no one should feel unsafe walking the streets of Greater Manchester. We remain committed to bringing justice to all rape victims and we will not tolerate any form of sexual violence in our communities.

“We urge anyone who has experienced sexual violence or abuse to come forward and report it to us. Every report will be thoroughly investigated and we will ensure you and your loved ones are fully supported every step of the way in our journey to justice.”

If you or someone you know has been a victim of rape or sexual assault, police encourage you not to suffer in silence and to report it to officers by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.

Two depraved killers who filmed the rape of a drugged and defenceless young father face life sentences for his murder. Dylan Brister and Cameron Allan slipped Calum Simpson drinks and left him unconscious before sexually assaulting him, which was recorded on a mobile phone. Simpson, 24, died from poisoning from the drug etizolam and alcohol after the attack on him at Brister’s home in Methil, Fife. Simpson’s third child was born 11 days earlier.

During the pair’s murder trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, the jury was shown graphic footage from Allan’s phone, along with photographs of the horrific injuries the dead man sustained in the attack.
