Alleged rapist of Alabama teenager arrested in New York

The Athens Police Department made an arrest in connection with the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl after tracking the suspect into New York State.

36-year-old Oscar Ariel Duarte Rodriguez is accused of first-degree rape.

On May 9, Athens Police received a report of a girl who had been sexually assaulted. Investigators learned that Rodriguez had fled to Putman County, New York. Investigator Melissa Meadows then contacted Putman County, where he was later arrested.

Rodriguez was extradited to Alabama and taken to the Limestone County Jail without bail.

According to police, he will face an Aniah’s Law hearing.
