On the evening of Wednesday, July 3, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion kicked off America’s birthday celebration with a slew of patriotic songs under the stars during the Star-Spangled Salute with the Houston Symphony. Sponsored by ExxonMobil, this free event has been an Independence Day tradition at the Pavilion for more than 30 seasons.

The symphony orchestra performed a variety of American classics under the direction of conductor Jason Seber. The evening also featured tenor and rising opera star Rafael Moras.

Pre-concert activities began at 6:30 p.m. in the North and South Squares and included an ExxonMobil photoshoot, souvenir giveaways, visits with patriotic figures, a special art project, Pavilion Partners Instrument Petting Zoo and sponsor activations.

The Woodlands Show Chorus, an award-winning a cappella choir of approximately 50 women of all ages from The Woodlands and surrounding communities, provided pre-show entertainment in front of the main stage beginning at 7 p.m. The Woodlands Show Chorus is a chapter of Sweet International Adelines and strives to achieve musical excellence through education, competition and community involvement.
