Webb enjoys more success in Atlanta as Giants take advantage of Chapman’s big hitting to claim 4-2 win over Braves

Logan Webb recovered from a rough start in his final strong performance at Truist Park as the San Francisco Giants beat Charlie Morton and the Atlanta Braves 4-2

ATLANTA — Logan Webb bounced back from a rough start to the season in his final strong performance at Truist Park as the San Francisco Giants beat Charlie Morton and the Atlanta Braves 4-2 on Thursday night.

Matt Chapman hit a go ahead homer in the Giants’ three-run fourth inning and added a double pointer in the sixth. San Francisco won two of three games against the Braves for its third straight series victory.

Webb (7-6) allowed two runs in the first inning but then pitched six scoreless innings to improve to 3-0 in five career starts at Atlanta.

“It’s a great atmosphere, a great stadium,” Webb said.

In total, he allowed two runs in seven innings.

“I feel like I’ve adjusted,” Webb said, adding that he was frustrated by his first-inning struggles. Coming into the game, his 4.50 first-inning ERA was more than a point higher than his 3.12 ERA overall.

“I’ve got to figure out a solution for the first inning,” Webb said. “I don’t know what it is. I can’t tell you. I can’t keep giving up two or three runs every first inning.”

Camilo Doval pitched the ninth inning for his 16th save, including two in the series. Marcell Ozuna led off the ninth with an infield hit before Doval got three straight outs, including strikeouts of Matt Olson and Adam Duvall.

The Braves did not have more than one hit in any inning after the first.

“It’s the offense that’s the problem,” receiver Sean Murphy said. “We didn’t put the right guys in there.”

Morton (5-5) allowed four runs, three earned, in 5 1/3 innings.

Heliot Ramos hit a game-tying two-run home run 424 feet to center field in the fourth inning. With one out, Chapman hit the game-tying hit, his 12th, off Morton in left field.

Chapman added a go-ahead double in the sixth inning for the Giants, who have won seven of their last 10 games.

The Braves took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Ozzie Albies’ double and a throwing error by right fielder Mike Yastrzemski allowed Jerred Kelenic to score from first base. Austin Riley’s sacrifice fly allowed Albies to score.
