The former deputy chief of the Ottawa Police Department was accused of sexually assaulting a woman more than a decade ago, according to Ontario’s Police Oversight Board.

According to the Special Investigation Unit, Uday Jaswal was a police inspector when the alleged attack occurred in 2011.

The SIU said it launched an investigation after Ottawa police informed it of the allegation in March 2023.

It says Jaswal was arrested today and released on several conditions, including that he is not allowed to communicate with the woman and is not allowed to possess firearms.

Local media reported that Jaswal retired from police service in 2022.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Ottawa on July 18.
