Case against cop for raping subordinate in Navi Mumbai | Mumbai News

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old police sub-inspector in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai has been accused of raping a married woman constable, harassing her, and taking money from her between 2020 and July 2022. The victim, 26 years old, alleges that the sub-inspector, after promising to marry her, raped her multiple times in a Sanpada flat and took Rs 19 lakh under various pretexts, returning only Rs 14.61 lakh.

The assaults allegedly took place between 2020 and July 2022. According to the official, the accused befriended the victim, who is also in the Mumbai police, and after promising to marry her, proceeded to rape her multiple times at a flat in Sanpada. Additionally, he reportedly took Rs 19 lakh from her, returning only Rs 14.61 lakh.

The case has several alarming aspects. The accused reportedly stalked the woman and demanded that she leave her husband. He also allegedly threatened to kill her if she did not comply.

“He also took Rs 19 lakh from the victim from time-to-time under some or the other pretext and returned only Rs 14.61 lakh,” the police said.

An initial complaint was filed at the Pant Nagar police station in Mumbai. Based on this, a ‘Zero’ FIR was registered against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 376 (rape), 376(2)(n) (repeated rape), 354(a) (sexual harassment), 354(d) (stalking), 506(2) (criminal intimidation), and 420 (cheating).

It was transferred for further investigation to the Sanpada police, who registered the case on Saturday.

A Zero FIR can be lodged at any police station, regardless of the incident’s location, and can later be transferred to the appropriate jurisdiction.
