Man indicted by Cuyahoga County grand jury in hit-and-run that left 7-year-old dead

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A Cuyahoga County grand jury has indicted 32-year-old Donald Mynatt in the hit-and-run crash that killed 7-year-old Amir (Maclin) Prewitt at a Cleveland residence in mid-August.

“Amir’s death is a terrible tragedy and my thoughts and prayers are with his family,” said District Attorney Michael C. O’Malley. “Donald Mynatt selfishly believed he could escape justice, but thanks to the diligent work of the U.S. Marshals and the Cleveland Division of Police, that is not the case.”

The Cuyahoga County District Attorney’s Office said that on August 16, Amir was riding his skateboard near the Lakeshore Beach Apartments in Cleveland when Mynatt, who was driving on the main driveway, struck Amir with his black Mercedes SUV.

Mynatt pulled into a parking lot, turned around and sped away.

Amir was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Donald Mynatt left the SUV in Cleveland. He was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service on September 4th and found hiding in an abandoned office above storage facilities in Lake County.

The following charges were brought against Mynatt:

• Two counts of failure to stop after an accident (second and third degree crimes)

• One count of tampering with evidence

• A case of negligent homicide

He will be arraigned at a later date at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center.
