Police arrest man for suspected murder in Montessa Park

Police have arrested a man for allegedly shooting a friend during an argument on a quad bike in Montessa Park.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Police have arrested a man for allegedly shooting a friend during an argument on an ATV in Montessa Park.

The man, identified as Andrew Johns, reportedly called Albuquerque police late Monday night because he was concerned about his friend after they got into an argument. Johns also described his friend and the argument.

Johns said his friend hit him with a plastic pipe and threw rocks at him. He went to get his gun, and his friend told him to shoot him. Johns then allegedly admitted to firing a shot into the air above his friend, causing him to run away.

Police arrested Johns for negligent use of a deadly weapon but later released him.

The next morning, city workers found a dead person near the park. The person had a gunshot wound to the head and reportedly matched John’s description.

Police subsequently arrested Johns for murder. He will appear in court on Wednesday afternoon.
