Shooting in Westport overnight leaves one dead and one non-life-threateningly injured

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – Kansas City police responded to a shooting that left one person injured and one person dead overnight.

At 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning, officers were near the corner of 39th and Westport when they heard gunshots. They responded to the area and found an unconscious man with apparent gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a closed business.

Emergency services took the man to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Investigators were later informed that the man had died from his injuries.

During the investigation into the incident, investigators were also informed that a second man with gunshot wounds was privately transported to a nearby hospital. He stated that he sustained the injuries in the shooting at the corner of 39th and Broadway. His injuries were not life-threatening.

Crime scene investigators and homicide detectives are working to gather evidence and witness statements. Officers say there was a large crowd there at the time of the shooting, and they believe someone has information that could help them solve the case.
