“I’m tired of being personally attacked”: Sha’Carri Richardson’s teammate is disgusted by the wrongful treatment by the athletics community

Sha’Carri Richardson is not one to let up when it comes to supporting her track and field family. Remember last year when she snatched the 2023 World Championship title in the 100m? At the same time, one of the USA team’s track and field stars found herself in a difficult situation in the 100m hurdles. The Texas native showed real talent and constantly beat her times. However, despite her performance at the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships, she ended up in 4th place, missing the nationals by just 0.002 seconds.

And it was interesting to note that she had made it through her entire career without a sponsor. So it was a gut-punch for the then 26-year-old to fail. But do you know who stood by her side? Sha’Carri. One year later, this hurdler is back in the spotlight, bravely speaking out against the abuses in the athletics community.

In a series of posts on X, Alaysha Johnson first expressed her frustration at being on the waiting list for the Racers Grand Prix Jamaica. Later, the hurdler even posted a list of competitors for the men’s 110mH at the Racers Grand Prix from the World Athletics Hub, prompting an account named Kadeen to write: “I feel like they’re trying to attract locals to draw in the crowds. Does she have an agent yet?”

Alaysha responded defensively: “From black women to black women, I really don’t understand the attacks?? Not only did I HAVE an agent, he is on the agent council AND hosts the Doha DL so let’s stop playing with this story.” Despite Kadeen’s attempts to explain, Alaysha continues to feel disrespected and vents her frustration at being questioned about her situation. The dialogue escalated, Alaysha felt increasingly attacked and disrespected, culminating in heated exchanges on X.

In one post she even wrote: “I am tired of being personally attacked for NOTHING!! I have done nothing to anyone. Stop using my situation as an excuse for blatant disrespect!!! to all of athletics.” Alaysha’s journey has been anything but easy, and this incident recalls a similar moment in 2023 when she encountered disrespect and challenges but found comfort in the encouraging words of Sha’Carri Richardson.

Although Alaysha Johnson runs without a sponsor, she doesn’t let that stop her. Under the guidance of her coach, she has won races in 2022 and 2023 and even won a silver medal at the 2022 USATF Outdoor Championships. But despite all her success, she has had to deal with setbacks, such as not being listed as a professional athlete on the Texas Relays roster, which left her baffled and frustrated. In a post on X, she vented her anger: “I have dedicated my entire life to a sport and now I am being ostracized from that sport, for what?”

After this setback, Alaysha doubled down on her training. At the 2023 World Championships, she competed in the 100-meter hurdles and finished fourth with a time of 12.46 seconds. She was initially tied for third place with Masai Russell, but came within a whisker of 0.002 seconds. Despite the loss, her coach Morgan Wells flooded social media with snaps of her struggle, reminding everyone of her incredible journey.
