Wolfforth man accused of sexually abusing mentally disabled girl

A 27-year-old Wolfforth man is currently in Lubbock Jail after a grand jury indicted him on 13 counts. He is accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl with developmental delays in February.

Gavino Nicholas Valdez VII was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center Wednesday on five counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony, six counts of aggravated sexual assault, a second-degree felony and one count of indecency with a child by sexual means Contact and a census of a child’s sexual performance.

The charges stem from a Wolfforth police investigation that began Feb. 28 when the girl’s grandmother called police after she raised an outcry accusing Valdez, her neighbor, of sexually abusing her .
