iPhones have always included some of the best camera technology around, allowing them to capture the kinds of images you’d normally expect to see from full-size mirrorless cameras. Rumors have been circulating for months about the photography features we might see on the iPhone 16 lineup, but there are a few that stand out in particular.

One is the much-rumored addition of a new dedicated camera button on the outer edge of the phone. This button would be geared specifically towards photography, with multiple levels of pressure allowing for a half-press to focus, just as you would on regular cameras. Some rumors also suggest it will recognize swipes, allowing you to swipe the button to zoom in quickly or change other settings.

Beyond the new button, early tipsters have suggested that the Pro models will get larger camera sensors for the main camera. I’m keen to see this happen as larger image sensors allow for better dynamic range and better overall image quality. This is why the Xiaomi 14 Ultra with its huge 1-inch image sensor is able to take amazing photos.

While numerous other camera rumors are flying around, one of the most prevalent is that 5x optical zoom will be available on both the standard Pro and Pro Max models. Right now if you want the long zoom (which as a photographer I do) it means going for the bigger and more expensive phone. If that’s true, you’ll be able to go for the smaller, more pocket-friendly iPhone 16 Pro without having to sacrifice camera performance.
