  • Newark woman beaten and robbed while sitting in front of her house

NEWARK, NJ — Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé is asking the public for help in identifying a suspect involved in an armed robbery that occurred on Houston Street at approximately 10:06 p.m. Saturday.

The victim, who was sitting on his porch at the time, was approached by a male suspect who exited a silver minivan, possibly a Honda Odyssey.

The suspect, described as a 5’10” black man of medium build, was armed and wearing a black ski mask, hoodie and pants. After attacking the victim by punching her in the face, he snatched her purse containing $200 and bank cards. The suspect then fled the scene in the minivan, which had tinted rear windows and dark rims, driving north on Houston Street toward New York Avenue.

Director Fragé asks anyone with information about the suspect or the vehicle to come forward and help with the investigation.

  • Arrests made in connection with the fatal overdose of Friends star Matthew Perry

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA— A doctor and an alleged drug dealer were arrested in Los Angeles for their alleged roles in the October 2023 death of actor Matthew Perry from a ketamine overdose. The arrests are part of a broader case in which five defendants are charged with various offenses related to Perry’s death.

Today, Jasveen Sangha, 41, known as “The Ketamine Queen” of North Hollywood, and Dr. Salvador Plasencia, 42, of Santa Monica, were charged with multiple counts, including conspiracy to distribute ketamine. The charges stem from an 18-count indictment centering on the distribution of ketamine to Perry during his final weeks.

Sangha also faces additional charges, including operating a drug-fueled premises and possession of methamphetamine and ketamine with the intent to resell. Plasencia is charged with multiple counts of ketamine trafficking and falsifying documents in connection with the investigation.

U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada condemned the defendants for putting profit ahead of Perry’s well-being and emphasized the serious consequences of trafficking in dangerous substances. LAPD Chief Dominic Choi and DEA Director Anne Milgram also stressed that coordinated efforts are needed to bring these individuals to justice.

The new indictment describes a disturbing pattern of behavior by the defendants, including the direct involvement of Kenneth Iwamasa, Perry’s personal assistant, who allegedly injected Perry with ketamine under Plasencia’s direction. Dr. Mark Chavez, another doctor involved, admitted to obtaining and selling ketamine used in the incidents that led to Perry’s death.

This case highlights ongoing efforts by federal and local authorities to combat the illegal distribution of controlled substances – including involving medical professionals – and to hold those responsible for drug-related deaths accountable.
