South Boston man with long criminal record charged in alleged stabbing attack at MBTA Andrew station

A Southie man with a 22-page criminal record has been charged in an alleged stabbing attack at the Andrew MBTA station.

Thomas Digaetano, 42, has been placed under investigation pending a dangerousness hearing after he was arraigned in court earlier this week in connection with the alleged attack.

According to reports, an MBTA Transit Police officer observed a fight between two men near the Ellery Street entrance to the bus lane at Andrew Station around 4:14 p.m. Tuesday.

As the police officer approached, one of the men fled toward Southampton Street. The police officer pursued the man, later identified as Digaetano, and arrested him not far from the station.

The alleged victim, 41, suffered multiple cuts to his head and abdomen. He was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment.
