Houston – This year at the Olympic Games, breakdancing will take center stage. This newly recognized sport with hip-hop roots has come a long way from its humble beginnings in the Bronx.

Jaime “Venum” Burgos has been breakdancing for years. He has danced with artists like Janet Jackson and Justin Bieber; but when the pandemic caused him to suspend his work income, he chose another path. This change led him to meet his young protégé, B-Boy Flippers.

“I decided to start teaching online, I started an online business called Break Methodz, and they found me and got me to work with Flipper,” Burgos told Houston Life.

B-Boy Flippers started dancing just before he was 5 years old. He will soon travel to Slovenia for the Kids World Breakdance Competition.

“We have to thank his parents first, they provide all of this for him, he has an incredible work ethic also thanks to his family,” Burgos said.

The B-Boy Flippers lifestyle involves homeschooling and practicing his moves three hours a day.

“He keeps the integrity of the dance, he’s a versatile B-Boy,” Burgos said.

According to Burgos, being versatile means having a true connection with the music and the ability to execute power moves, top rock, footwork, difficult tricks, freezes and flips.

“It’s a little exhausting, but when you do it for 5 or 6 years, it gets easier and easier,” B-Boy Flippers said.

Burgos and B-Boy Flippers shared what they do best for the Houston Life team at Studio B. Watch them as they break out in style in the video above.
