Ball State at Miami FL Football: Live Updates, Score, Highlights

Ball State football will take on the No. 12 Miami Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon in a tough early season road challenge.

After starting the season as the only FBS team not to play in Week 1, the Cardinals opened their season in Week 2 with a 42-34 home win over Missouri State. The Hurricanes, meanwhile, came away big in both contests, beating Florida 40-17 in Gainesville before dominating Florida A&M 56-9 in their home opener last week.

Hurricanes QB Cam Ward looked like one of the best players in college football through two games, throwing for 689 yards with six touchdowns and just one interception. Ball State’s new defense will have the unenviable task of trying to slow down Ward as it tries to make it two straight weeks with a bumpy road for the Mid-American Conference.

Andres Borregales made a 32-yard field goal for his second of the day to make it 41-0 for the Hurricanes with about three minutes left in the third quarter.

After forcing another Ball State punt, Miami decided to rest Cam Ward for the rest of the contest. Emory Williams is now at QB for the Hurricanes. Ward finishes with 346 yards and five touchdowns.

Miami drove down the field in just two and a half minutes and scored another touchdown to push the lead to 38. Ward found Jacolby George for his fifth touchdown pass of the game.

The Hurricanes defense forced the first turnover of the game as Elijah Alston intercepted Semonza after the QB was pressured again. Two plays later, Ward found Restrepo again for a 20-yard score to make it 31-0. This score will hold until the break.

The Cardinals led another drive into Miami territory, but found themselves facing a 4th and 3. The offense initially tried to get the Hurricanes to jump offsides with a hard count, but they still went for a timeout. Semonza’s pass fell incomplete and it took the Hurricanes two plays for Ward to throw his third TD of the half.

Ward hit wide receiver Chris Johnson Jr. on a bubble screen, and Johnson took it 37 yards for a touchdown to give Miami a 17-0 lead.

The Cardinals offense can’t do anything against Miami’s front seven. Semonza was sacked a third time on 3rd and 8 to force a fourth down. Tyler Baron tallied two of Miami’s three sacks, all of which came on third down.

Ball State finally started moving the ball early in the second quarter. Semonza was relieved of the pressure to find Tanner Koziol and Cam Pickett for first downs, and the Cardinals eventually found themselves in Miami territory. A third Miami sack forced a third Ball State fumble in as many drives.

The Hurricanes defense forced a three-and-out and the offense put up another quick score. Ward found wide receiver Xavier Restrepo for a 21-yard touchdown to make it a 10-0 ball game.

Miami defensive lineman Simeon Barrow Jr. sacked Kadin Semonza on 3rd down to force a Ball State punt. QB Cam Ward led the Hurricanes deep into Ball State territory, but the Cardinals defense held strong to force an Andres Borregales field goal.

The game finally started at 5:55 pm ET after more than two hours of weather delay. The Cardinals will start the game on offense.

Originally scheduled for a 3:30 PM ET kickoff, Ball State’s road contest against the Hurricanes was delayed due to lightning in the area. Kickoff has been scheduled for 4:00 PM ET, though further delays are possible.
