Get the fees! BARC Houston and BISSELL Partner to “Empty the Shelters”

Houston, we have a very tricky situation: BARC is waiving adoption fees for the entire month of July!

The BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters event returns this July, reducing adoption fees nationwide to combat pet homelessness.

BARC, the Houston Animal Shelter, joins more than 390 shelters across 44 states for this initiative.

From July 2 to 31, BARC will waive fees for all adult dogs, cats and kittens.

Puppies will be available for $25. Although BARC is closed for adoptions on Mondays, urgent pets can still be adopted from the 3200 Carr St. entrance.

Adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis, and adopters must be over the age of 18 and present a valid ID and proof of address. More details are available at www.houstontx.gov/barc/adopt_a_pet.html or by email at [email protected].

“Shelters face many challenges, from overcrowding to natural disasters,” said Cathy Bissell, founder of the BISSELL Pet Foundation in a press release. “Emptying shelters is a critical opportunity for communities to adopt and save lives. If you can’t adopt, consider fostering to help out when shelters are full. »

The BARC Adoption Center, located at 3300 Carr St., operates from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Despite adoptions closing on Monday, urgent animals remain adoptable from the 3200 Carr St. entrance.

“This campaign is crucial for BARC as our shelter is almost full,” BARC Shelter Director Jarrad Mears said in a press release. “Strategic partnerships like these are essential to finding homes for our animals. »

Since its launch in 2016, Empty the Shelters has helped more than 253,000 animals find homes, making it the largest funded adoption event in the United States.
