CNN excludes black media from presidential debate

CNN is scheduled to host a presidential debate on Thursday, June 27, 2024. Although they will provide media accreditations to foreign journalists, they have not granted the same privilege to Black media outlets. The Atlanta Voice is a publication that has served black audiences for nearly 60 years. It’s important to note that The Atlanta Voice recently conducted an exclusive one-on-one interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. Access is particularly important as media coverage plays a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the presidential election. It should be noted that none of the approximately 600 national and international media outlets accredited for the debate are owned and operated by black media organizations.

Thursday’s debate is scheduled at CNN’s Midtown Atlanta studios at 9 p.m.

Joe Biden’s campaign team has made strong efforts to include Black publications in its events, recognizing the significant influence of Black voters in the election and the challenges facing Black publications. It is important to note that although The Atlanta Voice will be part of the presidential press pool, this does not guarantee entry or access to the debate.
