Violence claims life of 3-year-old in Buffalo, New York

What started out as a very beautiful summer day full of fun and children playing in Buffalo’s Schiller Park turned dark after Buffalo city authorities called in a random act of violence that claimed the lives of a 3 year old boy and left behind a 7 year old child. -old girl injured after being scratched by gunfire.

According to the Buffalo Police Department, gunfire broke out in the early evening of Friday, June 21, 2024 on Domedion Avenue, just yards from Schiller Park in Buffalo. A group of children were playing outside when the shots were fired. Jamia Griffin, 7, and her brother, Ramone Carter, were both found by their mother, Shakenya Griffin, after she ran outside. While Jamia was only grazed by a bullet, young Ramone, nicknamed Red, was not so lucky. He was rushed to John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, where he died from his injuries.

Police officials told the Buffalo News that the investigation into the shooting was moving quickly and that a weapon had already been recovered. They are convinced that the children were a target and that we are innocent bystanders.

It’s just the latest mass shooting to claim lives in New York state’s second-largest city. Community members and government officials are distraught over this senseless act of violence.

Mayor Byron Brown and Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia are urging people with information to contact the city’s confidential tip line at 716-847-2255.
