Death investigation in Springfield now reveals murder-suicide

The investigation into a death in western Springfield is now being ruled a murder followed by suicide.

According to an autopsy and preliminary findings from the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office, 61-year-old Renee Terry died of multiple gunshot wounds and her 67-year-old husband, Robert Terry Jr., died Thursday of a single self-inflicted gunshot wound at their home in the 1800 block of Post Oak Court.

Springfield police were called to the scene shortly before 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Post Oak is a dead-end street on Greenbriar Drive, west of Veterans Parkway.

It is the third murder case in the city in 2024.

Neighbors the State Journal-Register spoke to said they did not hear any gunshots coming from the house.

Springfield police are continuing their investigation.
