Khalil Shakir Severs All Ties With Legendary Bills WR

To improve his chances of success with today’s Buffalo Bills, wide receiver Khalil Shakir has brought in one of the most productive pass catchers in franchise history.

Shakir trains with former NFL wide receiver Eric Molds during the offseason, their relationship documented in the latest episode of Beyond blue and red uploaded to the official Buffalo Bills YouTube channel. Molds is a name that the Buffalo faithful know well, even though it might not be a name they’ve thought about in a while; A first-round pick in the 1996 NFL Draft, Molds was incredibly productive throughout his 10 years in Buffalo, catching 675 passes for 9,096 yards and 48 touchdowns. He earned second-team All-Pro honors twice during his decade in Western New York and still ranks second among the team’s all-time receivers, behind Andre Reed, member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The new video gives an insight into how Shakir initially bonded with the legendary smuggler; Needing a place to live in the off-season, Shakir’s brother Attiyyah suggested he live near his home in South Carolina. Khalil told his brother he would need a coach if he were to move to the Palmetto State; Attiyyah put him in touch with Moulds, who trains athletes in the area.

It sparked a jovial coach-trainee relationship that Molds describes as a brotherly relationship, one in which the former fan favorite constantly pushes Shakir and helps him get the best out of himself.

A student of the game, Shakir knew Molds’ CV but didn’t know how much he was dominant, especially during certain periods of his time in Buffalo. ā€œI knew his name and I knew who he was, but as far as what he was able to accomplish and everything, that came after I started training with him,ā€ Shakir said in the clip.

The video primarily documents their workouts, with Molds briefly reflecting on his time in Buffalo along the way. He evokes the state of mind that was instilled in him at the start of his career, a psyche that he now tries to transmit to Shakir.

ā€œI had to do it with these guys: Bruce (Smith), Andre (Reed), Thurman (Thomas),ā€ Molds said. ā€œ(They) set a standard and the game came easy to them, so I said Iā€™m going to adopt it.ā€

The episode also touches on Shakir’s childhood; The son of a U.S. Marine, Shakir’s family moved around quite a bit during his childhood, living in Hawaii and Japan, among other places. The video even shows Shakir and his brother enjoying Japanese snacks from their youth.
