Dover police climb into a sewer to rescue her

When a mother duck was unable to reach her chicks trapped in a sewer on May 29, Dover police officers rushed to her aid.

Around 1 a.m., police received a call from a person who noticed a duck by the sewer on Route 13 near Royal Farms, 295 S. DuPont Highway south of Target, Dover Lt. Mark Hoffman said.

“Officers from A Train literally rushed to the scene immediately,” the department said on its Facebook page. “While checking the area, officers spotted another duck in another sewer and rescued that one as well.”

The four ducklings were reunited with their mother.

“This is a small but great example of the type of service Dover Police Department officers are proud to provide to the City of Dover,” Hoffman said.
