Max Verstappen F1 News: Incident with McLaren rival triggers FIA investigation

Oscar Piastri was noted by the race management members for an unsafe release into the path of an F1 rival and RedBull star Max Verstappen.

When the first qualifying round began in Monza, the drivers couldn’t wait to get on track and set their first lap times.

However, McLaren and Piastri were a little too ambitious, racing out of the pits and running straight into the path of Verstappen’s Red Bull, forcing the Dutchman to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision.

Verstappen unleashed a typically X-rated tirade over the team radio about the incident after McLaren mechanics overlooked the Red Bull when they let Piastri go.

Will Oscar Piastri get a penalty?

The penalty for an unsafe release in qualifying is usually a financial penalty for the team if it is found guilty of releasing a driver into the path of another car.

Both Williams And Clean were penalized last weekend at the Dutch GP after Alex Albon And Zhou Guanyu have led to unsafe releases into the pathways of Lance Stroll or Daniel Ricciardo – both teams were fined €5,000.

Despite the incident, both drivers made it into Q2, with Verstappen chasing the McLarens after what was already a difficult weekend for the champion.
