Ohio woman goes to prison for stealing dead child’s social security number

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A Hamilton County woman is going to jail for stealing a dead child’s Social Security number.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio, 56-year-old Christina Vaskovsky was recently sentenced to 24 months in prison for Social Security number fraud.

Citing court documents, the U.S. Attorney’s Office alleges that Vaskovsky was indicted in Hamilton County in 2008 for allegedly embezzling $14,500 from her employer. She allegedly failed to appear at her 2008 trial over the incident, which led to the issuance of a nationwide arrest warrant.

The press release said Vaskovsky decided to get an Ohio driver’s license, but the name was not hers. She used the name, birth date and Social Security number of a child who was born the same year as her but died in 1977 at age 10.

Over 13 years, the woman received thousands of dollars in food stamps, Medicare, Social Security, Supplemental Disability Income and unemployment benefits. Vaskovsky also filed for bankruptcy, applied for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan and presented a false ID when arrested for shoplifting in Kentucky.

Vaskovsky was arrested and charged in November 2023. She later pleaded guilty to five counts of Social Security number fraud, the press release said.

In addition to his prison sentence, Vaskovsky must pay approximately $191,000 to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the Social Security Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
