Galveston Police Investigate Off-Duty Officer Incident | Texas

GALVESTON, Texas — Galveston Police are investigating an incident involving an off-duty officer that occurred at the Island Bay apartment complex on June 25.

Officer Rivas, who was working off-duty security at the facility, was involved in an altercation with patrons at the pool around 7 p.m., according to a department news release. The department is still gathering information and investigating the incident, but the police chief has raised concerns about the officer’s conduct.

In accordance with Texas Civil Service Law, Officer Rivas has been placed on administrative leave pending the internal investigation. The department is also working with the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office.
