North Las Vegas police shoot suspect in multi-vehicle crash

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — North Las Vegas police shot and killed a suspect in a multi-vehicle crash after he threatened people, emergency responders and police officers with a gun, police said.

On Saturday around 9:10 p.m., North Las Vegas police responded to a four-vehicle crash at the intersection of Craig Road and North 5th Street. Witnesses said the driver who caused the crash was armed and threatened people who approached the vehicle.

When North Las Vegas firefighters arrived and approached the vehicle to assist, they too were threatened with a firearm, police said.

When officers arrived, they attempted to give several verbal commands to the man, who never exited the vehicle, to drop the weapon and exit the vehicle with his hands raised. Police said the suspect ignored the commands and raised the weapon in the direction of several officers.

Seven officers fired their weapons and hit the suspect. Medical personnel already on the scene confirmed his death.

This is the second police-involved shooting in the NVLPD’s jurisdiction in 2024. The identities of the officers involved will be released after 48 hours.
