ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – More than 3,000 people participated in the Atlanta Pride Run and Walk 5K on Sunday.

The annual charity event, held at Piedmont Park in Midtown, raises awareness and funds for local nonprofit organizations that help people living with HIV and AIDS.

“We’re talking about organizations that help people with AIDS, HIV, homeless youth, people who just need some extra help,” Atlanta News senior investigative reporter Andy Pierrotti said. who hosted the event.

This year’s theme was “Where You Belong,” which organizers say is a commitment to creating a welcoming environment and signifies a personal journey of self-discovery and growth.

Organizers said participation and fundraising efforts generated more than $120,000 to fight HIV, including matching contributions from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

The money will go to AID Atlanta’s intensive care and treatment programs, Bridge of Light and Lost + Found Youth.

“To see so many people here being so happy and loving each other and then being able to give so much back to these beneficiaries is awesome,” said DJ Pulce, executive director of Atlanta Pride Run and Walk.
