Woman attacked and robbed while sitting on bench in Long Beach

A woman was attacked and robbed while sitting on a bench in Long Beach on Thursday. The violent midday attack was captured on video.

According to Long Beach police, officers responded to calls of a robbery at 3:09 p.m. in the area between Studebaker Road and Keynote Street.

“Preliminary information indicates that a female victim was in the area when she was approached by two unknown male suspects in a vehicle,” an LBPD spokesperson confirmed to KTLA. “As she exited the vehicle, one of the suspects got into a physical altercation with the victim, which resulted in the suspect robbing the victim.”

The suspects fled the scene before officers arrived. The woman was robbed of “various personal items,” police said.

Video surveillance footage obtained by KTLA shows a suspect getting out of a black sedan behind the girl as she sits on the bench.

After sitting next to her for about a minute, the attacker began throwing punches. Another person, also sitting on the bench, could be seen getting up and running away as the attack began.

The suspect and the female victim wrestled and fought over what was believed to be a “miscellaneous personal item” she had stolen from her. The attacker appeared to have gotten what he wanted, but he abruptly turned around, shoved the victim again, and picked up something else from the ground before running back to the black sedan, from which he exited.

No injuries were reported, police said. The victim’s age was not disclosed and no identifying information on the suspects was immediately provided.

The investigations are still ongoing.
