SAPD says one person has died in a fiery rollover on Highway 281

SAN ANTONIO — One person was killed in a rollover crash on the city’s north side early Tuesday morning, according to San Antonio police.

The accident occurred just before 12:30 p.m. on northbound Highway 281 near the San Pedro Avenue turnaround, west of San Antonio International Airport.

According to police, the driver of a vehicle lost control on the turnaround near Heritage Street, went off the road and caught fire.

According to police, after extinguishing the fire, firefighters discovered a person in the vehicle. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to SAPD, it is not yet known whether the person was the driver. The name of the person killed has not yet been released.

It is still unclear why the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The San Antonio Police Department, San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all responded to the call.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, the police said.
