Why was Rishabh Pant banned for one match and fined Rs 30 lakh after DC vs RR match?

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been fined 30 lakh and suspended for one match for violating the IPL code of conduct. The team was accused of maintaining slow over-speed during the match against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on May 7.

“As it was his team’s third offense this season under the IPL Code of Conduct on Minimum Violations, Rishabh Pant was fined.” 30 lakh and banned for one match. The remaining members of the playing eleven, including the Impact Player, have been individually fined either Rs 12 lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is less,” the Indian Premier League said in a statement.

Pursuant to Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Delhi Capitals appealed against the match referee’s decision. The complaint was then forwarded to the BCCI Ombudsman for consideration. The Ombudsman held a virtual hearing and confirmed that the match referee’s decision remains final and binding.

It is DC’s third offense of this IPL season, so the suspension immediately came into vogue and resulted in Pant missing the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, scheduled to take place on Sunday. While Pant’s absence will certainly give RCB an advantage, they cannot lull themselves into a comfort zone.

RCB, who currently sit seventh on the points table with 10 points from 12 games, will be desperately hoping not to face the brilliant Capitals as a defeat could end their hopes of making it to the IPL playoffs. But their confidence will be high thanks to the strong and consistent batting performance led by talisman Virat Kohli.

Can Delhi make it to the IPL playoffs?

Delhi Capitals’ future in the IPL playoffs also depends on CSK and SRH. DC need to win their last two games in the hope of a team losing their remaining games between Hyderabad and Chennai.
