Rivers State University has suspended four students linked to the brutal treatment of their colleague Victor Tobins. The students, who work for the Man ‘O’ War security force, were suspended for one semester for violating university rules.

According to a statement issued by Deputy University Registrar, Ms IBS Harry, on Saturday morning, the students were found guilty of assaulting and inflicting bodily harm on Tobins, a 300th year sociology student, on June 12, 2024.

The suspended students are Monsi Baridukaka Nwaaelibabari, Victor Chibuike Daniel, Ezems Ikechukwu Goodluck and Wilson Jacob Ree-Ugani. The university management urged the students to live in peace and harmony and to comply with all rules and regulations.

The suspension came after a protest by students demanding the disbandment of the Man ‘O’ War group from campus. The protest was sparked by the brutality towards Tobins, who was beaten and injured by Man ‘O’ War officials for an unspecified reason.

The university administration intervened and, with the help of the police, restored calm on campus. The rector assured the protesting students that measures would be taken within 24 hours.
