Man arrested for possession of fentanyl tablets

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) – A Calexico man was arrested for possession of more than 50 fentanyl pills when he was stopped for another violation.

Calexico police said they stopped a man on a bicycle on Wednesday for riding on the wrong side of the road.

The officer said he noticed a large white container sticking out of the suspect’s left pocket.

He said they were able to find at least 50 to 100 fentanyl pills during the investigation, but that wasn’t the only thing they found.

“During the investigation, we also found a bundle of methamphetamine that he apparently may have thrown away before I stopped him. He tried to destroy it,” said Anthony Aguirre of the Calexico Police Department.

According to the police, the suspect is not unknown, as he is known for possessing and transporting narcotics.

According to Calexico police, there can be an increase of between five and ten fentanyl cases each week.
