Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff orders a Whataburger during the Texas campaign

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff was in Texas this week as part of the presidential campaign for Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, and naturally, he had Whataburger. Emhoff and former U.S. Rep. and former gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke stopped by the Texas Forever fast food chain in Austin for lunch on Sept. 23.

Emhoff shared a video on social media of his visit, where he ordered combo number two (the double meat Whathaburger with fries and a drink) without pickles and added onion rings. He also looks forward to the spicy ketchup and shared his fountain drink mix: two-thirds Diet Coke and one-third regular Coke. (He chose not to take the Dr. Pepper, although O’Rourke pointed out the shake). He also posed for photos with employees and diners.

statesman reports that they went to a location “two blocks east of Interstate 35 in Southeast Austin,” which appears to be East Oltorf’s East Riverside Restaurant.

It makes sense that O’Rourke would take Emhoff to Whataburger — he’s a noted fan of the Texas-born restaurant chain, ordering cheeseburgers without the tomato.
