2 pets dead, house damaged after fire Friday morning in Hudson

HUDSON, Ind. (WPTA) – The Ashley-Hudson Fire Department says two pets were killed and a home was damaged in a fire Friday morning in Hudson.

The department said it was notified of a house fire in the 400 block of West Wabash Avenue around 11 a.m.

When they arrived on scene, they found heavy fire coming from the basement, according to the department.

The Ashley-Hudson Fire Department then issued a zone alarm and dispatched neighboring fire departments.

According to authorities, the fire was fought from outside the house until emergency crews had sufficient control to enter the house and completely extinguish the fire.

By 12:30 the fire was under control

According to the Ashley Hudson Fire Department, a dog and a cat died in the fire. No other injuries were reported by homeowners or emergency responders on scene.

Fire departments from Angola, Butler, Corunna, Fremont, Hamilton, Kendallville, Orland, Salem Center, Steuben Township and Stroh assisted in fighting the fire. The Ashley-Hudson Police Department, Hudson Street Department, Steuben County Communications, Steuben County EMS, NIPSCO, 1-800-BOARDUP of Northeast Indiana and the American Red Cross of Indiana also responded to the scene.

Currently, the homeowners are working with the community and the American Red Cross of Indiana on reconstruction efforts, according to the Ashley Hudson Fire Department.
