Vermont corrections officer arrested on contraband charges

RUTLAND, Vt. (NEWS10) – A Vermont correctional officer was arrested Friday, May 10, for allegedly aiding and abetting contraband at the Marble Valley Correctional Facility. According to police, David Orvis was relieved of duty on Friday, February 2, as the investigation began.

Police said Orvis coordinated with two inmates to transport tobacco into the prison. He received electronic payments for tobacco collected from inmates.

During the investigation, Orvis resigned from his position as a correctional officer. State Police picked up Orvis and issued an appearance ticket for Monday, June 17, at 8:30 a.m. in Rutland District Court
