Man from Libby dies from injuries in traffic accident

A Libby man who was involved in a traffic accident on June 8 has died.

According to a Montana Highway Patrol report, a 59-year-old Libby resident was driving a Ford F-150 east on U.S. 2 near Pearl Street when he was struck by a Mazda B-4000 pickup truck driven by a 62-year-old man from Tenino, Washington.

The Mazda was on Farm to Market and attempting to cross the highway when it struck the F-150. The Ford hit the poles of Flathead Electric before coming to a stop. The Mazda flew over the curb and landed on its driver’s side.

An airbag in the F-150 deployed. The Libby man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center and then flown by ALERT air ambulance to Logan Health in Kalispell. He was then taken to Billings Clinic.

The driver of the Mazda was taken to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.

Alcohol, drugs or speed were suspected to be factors in the accident.

First responders included two units from the Libby Volunteer Emergency Medical Services, three units from the Libby Volunteer Fire Department, and several units from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Montana Highway Patrol.
