Report of “automatic rifle fire” in Midtown in Evansville unfounded

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Evansville police cleared a crime scene in Midtown after multiple officers converged on an apartment complex Tuesday morning.

Police responded to reports of automatic gunfire in the 1400 block of N Main Street.


Eyewitness News spoke to EPD officers shortly before they left the scene, and they said they were unable to locate any victims or confirm that a shooting had occurred.

The crime scene was cleared.

Eyewitness News is on the scene after a report of shots fired sent a squad of police officers to North Main Street.

Evansville dispatch confirms a report of “shots fired” was received at 7:40 a.m. this morning. EPD currently has North Main at Eichel Avenue closed off.
