PACOLET, SC (WSPA) – One person is dead following a police-involved shooting in Spartanburg County Sunday evening.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence in Pacolet before 8 p.m. for a fight in progress. En route, officers learned that the parties involved in the altercation may have been intoxicated.

When the sheriff’s office arrived, they were informed that shots had been fired. Officers took cover in the woods and observed shots being fired from inside the home.

Officers set up a security perimeter and made contact with those inside the home through a negotiator. Officials said the negotiator tried to negotiate with the suspected shooter for nearly two hours, but all attempts failed.

During the negotiations, the suspect fired several shots at the police officers, according to authorities.

Officials said authorities on the scene fired shots as the suspect walked into the street with a loaded weapon.

According to the sheriff’s office, no officers were reported injured.

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified the person as 43-year-old Jason Chad Prosser of Pacolet.

The shooting is currently being investigated by the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Agency.
