DNR police offer boating lessons

FARMINGTON, W.Va. (WBOY) – As the weather gets warmer, Division of Natural Resources (DNR) police are offering a boating course Saturday to keep people safe on the water.

The program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the DNR office at 1110 Railroad St. in Farmington and is free and open to the public.

Participants may take a test at the end of the session to become eligible to operate a motorboat or watercraft in West Virginia waters.

Due to a law passed by the legislature in 1998, anyone born in 1986 or later is required to successfully complete such a course.

People of all ages are welcome to participate, but must be at least 10 years old to receive certification at the end of the course, and children under 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
