Woman killed in traffic accident north of Des Moines Wednesday morning – ABC 6 News

(WOI) – Officers are responding to a crash involving a car and a pedestrian in north Des Moines Wednesday morning that left a woman dead, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said on X.

The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. on NW 2nd Street in Des Moines. A driver is said to have hit a woman at an intersection. When officers arrived at the scene, the woman was already dead.

Authorities believe stormy weather and poor road lighting likely contributed to the accident. Officials also note that the driver has so far cooperated with the investigation.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the road is closed in both directions between NW 43rd Avenue and NW 44th Avenue. Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
