Botafogo have signed Thiago Almada from MLS side Atlanta United.

The deal is reportedly worth $21 million, which is currently the third-highest inbound transfer fee in MLS history. That fee could potentially reach $30 million with bonuses.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder was part of Argentina’s World Cup-winning squad in 2022 and has four caps for his country in total.

During his time in MLS, Almada made 81 appearances for Atlanta, scoring 24 goals.

As part of the deal, reports suggest Almada, 23, will be loaned to Lyon next season.
