Cape Town police officer arrested for alleged rape of 6-year-old boy

CAPE TOWN – The Independent Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested a Cape Town police officer for the alleged abuse of a six-year-old boy.

The 44-year-old is stationed at the Forensic Laboratory in Plattekloof.

It is alleged that the officer attacked the child last weekend while the victim and his mother were visiting.

The accused and the victim are neighbors.

Phaladi Shuping of IPID: “They drank alcohol and unfortunately the mother fell asleep on the sofa. At this point the policeman allegedly raped the six-year-old boy. The boy reported the incident to a community member the next day. The incident was in turn reported to IPID, which arranged for the arrest of the policeman.”

Shuping said the defendant appeared in court on Thursday and the case was adjourned until July 1 so that a formal bail application could be made.
