Man shoots ex’s new boyfriend on Cambury Drive, HPD says

According to HPD, the man was released from prison about a month ago after spending 7 months behind bars for allegedly assaulting his now ex-girlfriend.

HOUSTON — Police are searching for a man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in a north Houston apartment early Friday morning.

It happened on Cambury Drive, near the intersection of Spears Road and Ella Boulevard, around 1 a.m.

According to HPD, the man was released from prison about a month ago after spending seven months behind bars for allegedly assaulting his now ex-girlfriend. After being released, the man repeatedly called the woman asking if she had seen anyone new.

Early Friday morning, he showed up at the woman’s apartment where she was spending time with her new boyfriend, according to HPD. She lived with her three children aged 16, 6 and 3.

She opened the door to speak to the man when he burst in with a gun and put the gun to her head, police said. The new boyfriend allegedly said he didn’t want any trouble and would leave, but the man pointed the gun at him and forced him to the ground. That’s when police say the ex-boyfriend shot the new boyfriend multiple times.

The new boyfriend immediately got up and ran out of the apartment. The man followed him and opened fire again, hitting the new boyfriend again, police said. The shooter took off and the victim collapsed on the grass.

Meanwhile, the woman took refuge in her children’s room and called 911. The victim was transported to the hospital where everything is expected to be fine. He was shot in the arms, legs and collarbone.

Houston police said they know who the shooter was and investigators are actively searching for him. His identity has not been revealed.
