Refresh Atlanta opens Saturday, seven months after a burglary forced them to close to repair their building.

Months after a group of thieves drove their vehicle past the front doors of Refresh Atlanta in East Point, the clothing/sneaker store is reopening.

The store is a few blocks from Main Street, but that didn’t stop thieves from breaking into the building and stealing thousands from the business.

Cousins, Baldwin Dockins and Richard Brown expanded their dream of the original Refresh Pittsburgh to their second location in East Point in February 2023.

“Yeah, it was going really well; everything was fine,” Brown said.

Until the burglary nine months later, in November.

“My alarm went off on my phone and I was looking at it, it was devastating,” Brown said.

Watching their hard work crumble before his eyes. However, this was not going to defeat both men.

“We just prayed about it, buckled down and came back to it, like man, we weren’t just going to give up on a dream,” Brown said.

He added: “We just kept persevering and moving forward. »

Now, seven months after sorting out the insurance issues, working with the police and repairing the building, Brown and Dockins are reopening the store.

“In every loss there is a lesson,” Brown said.

The cousins upgraded their security to prevent another group from breaking into their store.

Hoping that they can turn their experience into a positive lesson for other members of the community.

“To change the mentality here and understand that you don’t have to do these kinds of things. There are other things you can do and we are willing to work with the community to change this type of narrative. Brown explained.

Advice from a man who has experienced his own difficulties in life.

“We went through a difficult environment where it took me off the streets for a little while and during that time I reorganized my life and started learning all the things I was doing wrong, the failures , get better and come up with a plan to come home and execute it and that’s what we did,” Brown said.

This obstacle is just another chapter in the story of these budding entrepreneurs.

“It has always been a dream to work with my cousin and yes we got distracted but we didn’t let that get in the way, we are survivors and we were going to get back up and work.

The Refresh Atlanta reopening will take place on Saturday, June 15, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The store is located at 2871 Main Street in East Point.

Anyone with information about the burglary is encouraged to contact East Point police at (404) 761-2177.
