One person arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old man in Pittsylvania County

HURT, Virginia. – According to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, one person is currently in custody in connection with a shooting that left a 28-year-old man dead.

On Thursday around 8:15 p.m., officers were called to the 1600 block of Shula Drive in Hurt, Virginia, for a report of a shooting incident. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man, later identified as 28-year-old Jimmy Dee Hardwick, had been shot. The victim received medical attention but died at the scene, authorities said.

Investigators later learned that a suspicious person had left the scene before they arrived, but after a search of the area, officers found the person and arrested him without incident. Officers have not yet identified the person in question, but said charges are expected.

Officials said Hardwick will be taken to the Western District of Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death.
