Police investigating weekend shooting that injured boy under 5 in Kansas City

A young boy was injured in a shooting in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon.

According to Sergeant Phillip DiMartino, a Kansas City Police spokesman, officers responded to the shooting around 3:52 p.m. in the 6600 block of Bellefontaine Avenue.

A boy under the age of 5 was shot, but his injuries are not life-threatening, he said. He is being treated at a local hospital. His current condition is unknown.

The police investigation is ongoing. Police have not released any details about the circumstances of the shooting.
