Thurston County Sheriff: Father shoots rideshare driver who sexually abused his daughter

A father shot a rideshare driver multiple times early Saturday morning in Thurston County after he caught the driver sexually assaulting his daughter, according to Thurston County officials. The rideshare driver was arrested after police responded to the shooting.

Deputies with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office reported that an intoxicated woman was given a ride home by a rideshare driver Saturday morning. There, the driver took her to a known fishing spot in the Nisqually area and began assaulting her, according to investigators working the case.

The woman’s father found the car and caught the ride-share driver sexually abusing his daughter. At some point during the altercation, shots were fired.

The suspect fled the scene as officers responded to what they believed to be a weapons violation, the sheriff’s department’s official statement said. A deputy eventually stopped the vehicle and noticed the driver was injured. Two shell casings were found near the scene.

“The ride-share driver was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the incident and was subsequently arrested for second-degree rape and first-degree kidnapping,” the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said in an official press release.
