Accident in Harnett County sends 12-year-old to hospital, driver arrested

Emergency crews said they found the passenger side of the car upright in the yard of a home that was heavily damaged.

HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) – A suspect accused of drunken driving is behind bars after a crash in Harnett County injured a child.

Shortly before midnight, first responders headed to the scene of the accident near Denim Drive and Raiford Road in the town of Erwin.

Crews said they found the passenger side of the car upright in the yard of a heavily damaged home.

A 12-year-old was brought to WakeMed in Raleigh as a trauma patient.

According to first responders, a five-year-old was examined and released to other family members who arrived at the scene.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was arrested at the scene on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The driver’s name was not released.
