Man from “Children” dies in accident on I-10 in Vinton

VINTON, Louisiana (KPLC) – Police say a Kinder man died in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on I-10 in Vinton Friday night.

The accident occurred on Friday shortly after 8 p.m. on I-10, east of Louisiana 109, according to Sergeant Ross Brennan, spokesman for Louisiana State Police Troop D. The accident claimed the life of 58-year-old Andrew Gonsalves.

The investigation revealed that Gonsalves was driving a 2000 Lexus ES eastbound on I-10. At the same time, a 2014 Volvo 18-ton truck was also traveling eastbound on I-10. For reasons still under investigation, the Lexus struck the rear of the 18-ton truck before veering off the road to the right and hitting several trees.

Gonsalves, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, Brennan said. The driver of the semi was properly buckled in and uninjured.

According to Brennan, a standard toxicology sample was taken from both drivers and sent for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
